Join us on Wednesday, November 19th for the opening reception of the new exhibit: “Our Contribution to the City”: Black Life in Akron in the 1930s & ’40s, as Seen Through the Lens of Horace & Evelyn Stewart. This exhibit is housed at the Dr. Shirla R. McClain Gallery of Akron’s Black History & Culture at the University of Akron.

The University of Akron Archives & Special Collections has digitized 20,000 photographs from the Horace and Evelyn Stewart studio, which was a fixture in the Black community on Howard Street, with plans to digitize a total of 46,000 photos.
